Buying property in Bulgaria
Bulgaria has been seen as something of a property playground for many British people in recent years and as a result prices have risen. As a place to snap up a rural farmhouse for £5,000 - yes, it was and still is possible in some inland areas, although you may need to spend £10,000 these days - or a beachfront studio apartment for £20,000. Nowadays, £30,000 is the entry level.
Only on going to have a look at their investment for themselves have these speculators found out that Bulgaria's pretty attractive too, especially its Black Sea coast and mountain regions.
Bulgaria's capital city, Sofia, is outward-looking and modernising rapidly - although not even its greatest fan would claim it's the world's prettiest capital. In contrast Plovdiv has Roman ruins and is positively picturesque, as is Varna which is a port and resort on the Black Sea. So whether you are looking for pleasure or profit, or a little of both, Bulgaria is a country that demands a closer inspection.
