Click through our gallery below for some tips on how to control frizzy hair without being forced to use those moisture-sapping straighteners every day. And be sure to check out our gallery of top winter hair-saving products.
- Condition, condition, condition
Every time you wash your hair, you must condition - in fact, just wash with conditioner some days. Try leaving it on for five minutes or more to give hair a chance to replenish oils and rehydrate, and start using a conditioning masque at least once a week. Drying tip: Be sure not to pull or twist your hair or you could risk breaking it, which will cause those pesky flyaways.

- Use a boar bristle brush
Everyday basic brushing can help restore your hair's glossiness - if you're using the right kind of hairbrush. The scalp's own oils will stick to a brush with boar bristles, allowing you to redistribute the oil through your mane with each stroke.

Flat classic hairbrush, £49, Bumble & bumble

- Bun head
An updo isn't just a chic hairstyle for a night out - it can also help protect your locks. Put on a light leave-in conditioner to smooth down the hair cuticle (raised cuticles contribute to frizz) before you go to bed and twist your locks into a low bun. It's also a good style for the work commute to protect your hair from frizz-causing humidity - and a bun will help hide any errant flyaway hairs.

- Protect with products
Serums, oils and other hydrating products are all useful tools in your battle against frizz. Always use a heat-protecting product before and after using any styling tools to seal and smooth the hair cuticle. Also, use a hair protection spray to gear up against the elements before leaving the house, and finish the day with a hydrating leave-in conditioner.

Pantene Normal to Thick Hair Frizz Fighter, £4.69, Boots

- Put down the bottle - of hairspray
Hairspray is not going to tame those frizzy tresses into submission - in most sprays, the alcohol content is so high that spritzing will raise the hair cuticle, giving you that less-than-desirable (unless you're a TOWIE cast member) pouffy-haired look. However, heat protection sprays and element-buffering sprays will help banish frizz.

- Don't wash so often
Washing hair every day strips your mane of its natural oils, so you're better off shampooing only a few times a week. Use a dry shampoo to keep locks smelling and looking fresh between washes.
