Burlesque to ballgowns at the MTV awards
As show-stoppers go, we have to admit that Katy Perry's performance as host of the MTV Europe Music Awards last night was one of the best.
The singer managed to top her costume count from last year's show and managed an astonishing 12 changes through the course of the evening.Marking her arrival, Katy looked stunning dressed in a floor-length pink Marchesa gown, but there was burlesque and bizarre to come.
She took to the stage first in a ringmaster style basque, with suspenders and heart-adorned knickers. Many of her costumes were Cabaret-inspired, as befitted an evening in Berlin, and there were basques of all shapes and colours to keep the crowds entertained.
For one appearance, Katy even displayed her feelings for new love Russell Brand, wearing an underwear set complete with garter, in the colours of his football team, West Ham (Rusty, of course, emblazoned across her behind).
But there were also feathery white numbers and midnight blue flapper dresses to be found in Katy's extensive dressing room (a picture of which she posted on her Twitter page), though perhaps the strangest moment of the evening came when she arrived on stage wearing a peach-coloured ballgown.
Not so strange, you might think... but that was before you noticed the huge wholes cut into the flouncy skirt.
Still, it was a magnificent achievement, gracefully and cheekily carried off by Miss Perry.
The question is, what will she do next year?
