But it seems the publisher of the travel must-have are broadening their horizons. And this time you won't need a map. Well, not of the world anyway.Better known for their travel and reference guides, the Rough Guide publishers are set to launch the Rough Guide to Sex in January of next year.

This hands-on 'how to' manual will be crammed full of advice on techniques, accessories and sexual adventure, whatever your sexuality – it'll even provide the all-important guide to the perfect orgasm.

Obviously it won't all be raunchy. Though the readers will certainly be exploring the body in all its sexy glory, attitudes and beliefs about sex as well as cultural and ethical issues will also feature.

Author James McConnachie, shortlisted for the Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year 2008 and writer of The Book of Love: In Search of the Kama Sutra, is the man entrusted with the guide and insists there's more to sex than just the act itself.

He writes: "If we cut sex off from the rest of civilization, we can't hope to be truly civilized about sex."

So whether you're at the first fumblings stage or looking for a new sexual adventure, the Rough Guide will no doubt bring a whole new dimension to bedtime reading.
