Beckham and the bag collection

They say you can never have too many shoes... but for Victoria Beckham the same apparently applies to bags.
And not just any old bag. US website thebigmoney.com reported this week that Ms Beckham owns in the region of 100 Hermès Birkin bags.
That may seem unsurprising for one of her wealth, but consider that the collection is estimated to be worth £1.5m and the jaw begins to drop.
The Birkin bag was designed in 1984, named after the actress Jane Birkin and was allegedly created for her after she complained of having difficulty finding a leather weekend bag.
Now a design classic, the basic Birkin model starts at £4,200. As you may have guessed, Victoria owns more than just the common-or-garden variety.
Her luxury Birkin purchases include the pink ostrich skin and black crocodile version, each worth up to £42,000. She has even been spotted in Dubai with the rare 'Silver Himalayan' style bag. Coming complete with a three-carat diamond, this unusual version costs an astonishing £80,000.
Add to those a coloured Birkin for every occasion and it is easy to see how the price tags mount up. However, with waiting lists of up to three years for these hand-crafted items together with their potential as an investment, perhaps Mrs Beckham has an eye on the future rather than just the weekend.
